Description

Body Tracker is a software package that will allow you to calculate and record your body fat percentage, keep track of your measurements, graph your progress, and view your pictures.

Calculate Your Body Fat Percentage

Use the Body Fat Percentage screen to calculate and record your body fat percentage. Body Tracker gives you a choice of three different methods to track your body fat percentage:
  1. The Fat Caliper Method (developed by A. S. Jackson and M. L. Pollock) is an accurate method you can use at home to determine your body fat percentage, but you do need to purchase a fat caliper to use this method.
With the fat caliper method, you can use either the three site measurement or the seven site measurement, depending on your preference. If you need help using a fat caliper, Body Tracker includes a "How To" button that will show you a diagram and descriptions on where to take the measurements.

  2. The Tape Measure Method (developed by J. A. Hodgdon and K. Friedl, Naval Health Research Center) is another method of calculating your body fat percentage. All you need is a tape measure to take your measurements. Men will need to take height, neck, and waist measurements, and women will need to take height, neck, waist, and hip measurements to calculate body fat percentage with a tape measure.

  3. The Other Method is a way to enter your body fat percentage if you are using another method, like a body fat scale. Body fat scales will calculate your body fat percentage by passing a small electric current through your body. However, body fat scales can be quite expensive and are not as accurate as using a fat caliper.

Knowing your body fat percentage is critical when trying to improve your body composition. For example, if you have 50 pounds in fat and 150 pounds in lean body weight, then your total body weight is 200 pounds. If you lose 2 pounds in fat and gain 3 pounds in muscle, now you weigh 201 pounds. By using a regular scale, you might think you gained fat. But with Body Tracker you will know you lost fat and gained muscle. Tracking body fat is the best way to improve your body composition.

Body Composition Results

After entering your measurements, Body Tracker will calculate your body fat percentage, how many pounds/kilograms of your body is fat, how many pounds/kilograms of your body is lean body weight, and how many pounds/kilograms of fat you need to lose to reach your desired body fat percentage. In addition, Body Tracker composition screen has a body fat percentage chart to help you determine what your body fat percentage means to you. Once you have completed the body composition page you can save your recordings and graph the results or show a complete history of your body composition.

User Profile

Body Tracker allows you to set your preferences in the user profile. You can set Body Tracker to use pounds or kilograms, and inches or centimeters. In addition, Body Tracker allows you to set a body fat percentage goal. When calculating your body fat percentage, Body Tracker will show your current body fat percentage and how many pounds of fat you need to lose to achieve your goal.

Record Your Tape Measurements

Use the tape measurements screen to record your tape measurements for different body parts. You can record in inches or in centimeters. In combination with body fat percentage, tape measurements will help you track your progress as your body composition changes.

Graph Your Progress

Once your body fat and tape measurements are recorded, Body Tracker allows you to graph your progress. Body Tracker can display four different types of graphs, and you can customize the graphs to show only the measurements you want to see. In addition, all graphs can be printed.

History of Progress

The history screen allows you to see the actual numbers you recorded for body fat percentage and tape measurements, sorted by date.

Picture Slideshow

Seeing pictures of yourself as you are losing body fat is the best way to measure your progress. With Body Tracker's Picture Slideshow, you can view your pictures along with your corresponding body composition and tape measurements, all on one screen.

To use the picture slideshow, take a picture of yourself periodically throughout your body fat loss program. Then, use Body Tracker to record your body fat percentage and body tape measurements on the same day you take your picture. Next, save your picture onto your computer and use Body Tracker to associate your body composition and body tape measurements to the picture. Finally, view a slideshow of your pictures along with your corresponding body composition and tape measurements.

Gradual change is oftentimes hard to see, but seeing pictures of your body over time gives you a better view of your progress and the motivation you need to get the body you want.
